How traveling affect you as a person

3 september 2011 - Woerden, Nederland

Traveling is, great for many reasons. The beautiful places we'll visits are awesome of course. Another great thing that I like about it is that you learn stuff about yourself, change, get different views and opinions, etc.

And although this will be the second time for me hopping over to Australia, that effect apparently doesn't fade away! The first time I went, about 2,5 years ago, I was in a totally different stage in life. Having just graduated, no job, still single etc, life was different and I was sooo ready to just get away. I didn't expect to miss anything and that turned out to be reality as well.

But this time.. There’s been a couple of moments this week where I heard myself thinking 'djeez, I'm gonna have to miss that the next couple of months. It's little things like the kindness of Woerden, not seeing my fish change and grow up for some time, hanging on my own couch, enjoying the beautiful weekly radio episodes by my favorite dj’s.

And that makes me wonder why I have this feeling now, while I didn't in 2009! What does that tell me about me and my current life? Is perhaps the urge for stability and just settling getting bigger? Or am I happier? And why is that then? Has life actually gotten better or am I happier with less? And is that a good thing, or am I getting boring and becoming the stereotype 30+aged average Dutchie that just wants to camp out in France for 3 weeks in midsummer with his neighbors, not being adventurous anymore?

I honestly don't know, but these thoughts keep me busy. Thoughts I wouldn't have if I just stayed home. The answers are interesting and I never would have found out if this whole trip wasn't going to happen. To me I this is a very strong example of how traveling can change you and be very interesting experience. And we haven't even left the country haha.

I love that, those life changing experiences and periods. Can't wait to get on that plane! We'll be in Sydney in 12 days, back in beloved Sydney!

Lowbudget
We’ve made good progression on the going low budget plan as well. Booked cheap flights to New Zealand, I figures out when sale is for the flight back and I bargained of €15 on the hostel in Sydney haha. They accepted my offer when I told them I was going to look for other options.
We also plan to take as much public transport as possible (instead of airport shuttle busses) and will spend 2 nights in the airports in New Zealand. We're flying in late and flying out early anyway so there's no point in booking and expensive hostel for the couple of hours well have.

In a week from today we should be more than ready to go. Got a big festival next weekend so we need to be done preparing everything before that!

Counting down the days,
Steven &Ramona
