To the other side of the world

Yeah, big news! We’ve been making a couple of big decisions in the past weeks.
To start off, we’re both quitting our jobs. I’m getting laid off at NPO and Ramona resigned. We’ve got about two weeks to go to our final days.

It was a slight disappointment for me to get laid off, but it offered us big possibilities as well! After travelling Thailand together and my amazing stories and experiences in Australia, the urge to go travelling again is still large. While having a job means you can only get away for three weeks or so, not having a job means endless possibilities! Which we will take advantage of lol.

We're going to the other side of the world! On September 12th we'll fly out from Schiphol to Sydney! To break the trip a bit and take the advantage of stopping there anyway, we'll spend a day in Taipei, Taiwan.

About 34 hours later we'll depart again for Sydney, arriving Thursday September 15th around 9 AM local time. Then we've got some busy days ahead, going wild from excitement haha.

Saturday the 17th we'll be going to Defqon.1 Australia! One of the biggest festivals for the harder styles in Australia, organized by Q-dance, a Dutch organization whose events we frequently visit. Ramona has attended about 8 editions of Defqon in the Netherlands, and this will be the crown event I reckon ;-)
We won't be the only Dutchies around at Defqon btw, there's around 100-200 I guess. We're meeting about 50 of them the day we arrive in Sydney, should be fun.

After Defqon we’ve got a couple of days to spend in Sydney. On Wednesday the 21st we fly out to Auckland, New Zealand! We hired a camper and plan to tour around for a month, spending about 70% on the southern island and the rest of course on the North. Very excited about that, going to the country farthest away from Holland. I never really imagined going there but it’s a fact! Can’t wait, it’s supposed to be freakin’ gorgeous :)

Afterwards we go back to Oz (probably Sydney) to work for a couple of weeks and travel around. East Coast, Great Ocean Road, Outback, that sort of stuff :)

We plan to leave Oz somewhere in January or February, flying to Bangkok. From there we'll visit one or two countries of the following: Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam. Not sure yet which ones, how long and when. We need to make some good money and save as well in Australia, so all depends on getting a good job!

We plan to fly back February 27th, arriving at Schiphol in the morning. Totally bankrupt probably, but loaded with lifetime experiences, changed attitudes, skydiving certificates, more tattoos, scuba diving specialties and so on.

I’ll be starting my new job on March 1st at Control as a Junior Financial Consultant. That’ll be mostly temp positions at their clients (detachering) but growing out to consulting. Ramona’s career future isn’t fixed yet but I’m sure we’ll manage!

Last couple of weeks has been filled with arranging everything. Ending gym membership, selling my car (still on sale! € 800. I’m getting a car from work), finding people to live in our apartments, etc etc.

So busy busy but wicked exciting! I can’t wait to get back to Sydney, the best city I’ve visited in my life. Just love it, feels like home and now I’m finally going home again! Love love love it!
Of course very excited for all the other coming highlights as well. And although it’s a bit scary as well, going away for so long and needing to find a job, I’m sure we’ll manage!

So yeah, big life-changing steps, but we’re ready for it!
Oh and in case you’re wondering why this blog is named yellowgreen kiwis, New Zealanders are kiwi’s and yellow and green are Australia’s national colors!

We’re taking a laptop with us on the trip for blogs and uploading those gorgeous pictures. So in the box on the right enter your mail address if you’re interested, and you’ll get an e-mail when there’s a new blog online!
